Welcome

Hi folks and welcome to my new website. It’s great to finally have one that really functions as a home for everything I want to share with you all.

2012 has started busy getting ready to launch my new record in May. I really can’t wait to get it out to you all but I’ll have to be patient for just a few more months. Whirlwind Recordings have been really supportive and I’m glad I waited to find the right home for Occurrences.

In the meantime I have a couple gigs this month at Celtic Connections with the great Vocalist / Flautist / Composer Nuala Kennedy. In particular I’m looking forward to her ‘Astar’ project featuring the amazing Will Oldham (AKA Bonnie Prince Billy) along with a host of other great musicians. We’re starting rehearsals this week and I’m looking forward to getting behind the bass again.

Also this month I’m playing with guitarist Martin Taylor and accordionist Jack Elmbow at Fife Jazz Festival. Martin was one of the first jazz musicians I ever heard and it’s a real pleasure to get to play with him. I remember my Dad taking me to see him a couple times in my early teens and being completely blown alway by his solo guitar mastery. (I even used to practice transcriptions of arrangements back when I still had six stringed ambitions). Unfortunately I missed out on a chance to play with Martin a few years back due to a clash of dates so I’m happy another opportunity has arisen.
